A Surprisingly Stylish Convention Hotel: My Stay At The Hyatt Regency Orlando

On most of my travels, I consider choosing a hotel that is close to the sights and restaurants I want to see, has the amenities I need (most importantly a coffee shop to cheer me up in the morning), and fits my budget.

when i travel to orlando However, going to a conference recently, my desire to have immediate access to the city’s Orange County Convention Center outweighed the need to check the above box.

Connected to the convention center via a covered walkway, convenience is often the main attraction of a convention center Hyatt Hotels in OrlandoBut, for convention goers, is its prime location the only reason to stay there? What can it offer families visiting the area’s theme parks and world famous attractions?

Here’s my take on this surprisingly comprehensive hyatt hotel.

The 27-story sprawling hotel features two stunning large swimming pools, multiple on-site restaurants, a 24-hour grab-and-go café, a full-service spa and fitness center. With its buzzing vibe and resort-style amenities, it immediately feels more like a vacation than a work trip. It’s also less than 15 minutes from Disney land, Universal Studios OrlandoSeaWorld and many other popular Orlando attractions.

reach there

Hyatt Regency Orlando on International Drive, just 12 miles from Orlando Orlando International Airport (MCO). The hotel does not provide an airport shuttle service, but taxis, car-hailing services and car rental services are available at the airport. You should be at your hotel within 15 minutes of getting on the bus.

Hyatt Regency Orlando has 1,641 guest rooms, 142 of which are suites.best way to book World of Hyatt Properties directly with Hyatt. Standard rooms start at about $230 per night or 9,000 World of Hyatt points, or you can pay a little more for a pool view or balcony room. Suites start at $295 or 17,000 World of Hyatt points per night.

The hotel also charges a $30 nightly resort fee that includes premium Internet access, fitness center admission and fitness classes, spa and salon services and discounts on cabana rentals, two bottles of water per day, and more. However, if you pay for your stay with World of Hyatt points, the resort fee is waived.

Salient features

  • The hotel has easy access to the convention center without feeling like an ordinary business hotel. With beautiful views, a variety of dining options and a large number of living facilities, it is suitable for guests who want to work and play.
  • The Hyatt in Orlando has the best french fries I’ve ever had in a hotel or possibly anywhere. I ordered it twice—once at the Coconuts Poolside Bar & Grill and once at the B-Line Diner—to make sure it wasn’t a fluke, and both times it was warm, crispy, and perfectly seasoned.
  • The large main pool (called the Grotto Pool) is beautiful with waterslide, quiet grotto area with waterfall, gated kids area, and full service bar and grill. Swimming was a bit chilly during my stay, but I still visit here many times for a meal and a cocktail, or just to read by the pool.

  • Due to the size of the hotel, it may take a while to get from your room to the hotel’s amenities. From my room on the 26th floor, I have to take the elevator to the lobby, go through the lobby and take the second elevator down to the first floor where the Grotto Pool is located.
  • The elevator was going so fast that it made me a little dizzy every time I took it. It covered 27 floors very quickly, which is fine, but the speed really bothered me.
  • I’m having constant issues connecting and staying connected to Wi-Fi and streaming TV services. I used the chat function to speak to hotel staff about this, but never heard back. After googling this issue myself, I was able to get it to work.

In short, the Hyatt Regency Orlando feels “lively”.

Within walking distance of the Orange County Convention Center, the hotel also boasts 315,000 square feet of event space. This means there are people walking around outside at any time of the day.

In the morning, guests chat over coffee at tables outside the 24-hour market, and in the evening sip cocktails while music plays in the lobby bar. If you’re the type of person who accosts strangers while waiting in line at Starbucks, you’ll feel right at home.

However, the room has a soothing, cozy vibe to it. Even my standard king room was spacious at 415 square feet, with a soft color scheme, a blue patterned rug that reminded me of rippling water, and a daybed by the window where I could relax .

Once inside the room there is a large wardrobe and a small kitchen area with a mini fridge and coffee maker on one wall and a full length mirror on the other. The bathroom has a large tub and shower combo and a large mirror that also displays the time (very useful when you have a tight schedule).

Power and USB outlets are more than adequate, and as someone who reads before bed, I appreciate the reading light built into the headboard. The TV was set up for Chromecast streaming, but I did have some connection issues that took an entire day to sort out.

During my stay, I tried as many restaurants as I could, and I was equally impressed with the menu and ambience of each one.I visited the 24-hour market, not just for groceries and my morning starbucks fix, but also works great with custom quick-serve items like vegan grain bowls and Caesar salads. Their menu has a long list of pizzas, sandwiches, breakfast items and hot dishes.

At the Coconuts Poolside Bar & Grill, I ordered the cheeseburger, frozen margarita, and the aforementioned well-prepared fries. Every mouthful (and every morsel) was delicious, and I was so happy to enjoy such a delicious meal while lounging by the pool.

One night, I ate dinner at the B-Line Diner and ordered a fish sandwich with jerky relish and tropical fruit salsa (and chips). I was full by the time I left, but it was hard to resist the dessert display on my way out.

The hotel also features an Italian fine dining restaurant called Fiorenzo, a lobby bar and 24-hour room service.

Amenities and Services

Other than the internet connection issues, everyone I encountered at the Hyatt in Orlando was very friendly and helpful.

The facilities of this hotel are probably what surprised me the most. When I think of a conference hotel, I picture a small rectangular swimming pool and a sparse fitness center with a few treadmills and a weight rack.

The resort style pool at this hotel blew my mind. There is plenty of room to play, swim or have a drink in a secluded alcove. There is also a quieter Olympic-sized swimming pool for swimming.

The fitness center is equally impressive. There are separate areas for free weights, treadmills, ellipticals and strength machines. The spa was closed when I stopped by to check it out, but the space is huge and the menu shows a full range of treatments from massages to facials and even makeup.

out and about

The Orange County Convention Center was less than a 10 minute walk from my hotel room. However, if you’re in Orlando, there’s a good chance you’ll want to visit one of the city’s world-renowned theme parks.

Hyatt Regency Orlando is less than five miles from SeaWorld Orlando and Universal Orlando, and just over 10 miles from Walt Disney World. In the coming years, you may even be able to travel between Universal Orlando and Orlando International Airport via: SunRail Regional Train Service.

Hyatt Regency Orlando features accessible features in its guest rooms and meeting rooms, including mobile capabilities, hearing aids for meetings, and closed captioning or closed captioning decoders for in-room TVs. The hotel’s public areas, including the swimming pool, spa facilities, fitness center and restaurant, are fully accessible with accessible routes from the accessible public entrance.

I was very impressed with the Hyatt Regency Orlando and would not hesitate to stay here again if I were to attend an Orlando attraction outside of the theme parks. If traveling to Orlando to visit a theme park, I would probably stay at disney world hotel or Universal Hotelbut the french fries at the Hyatt in Orlando are so good I might change my mind.
